I was greeted with a phone call from my loving husband today that went a little something like this:
"Hey! Well, I got the promotion so I guess we'll need to go car shopping tonight."
WHOA. John's known me for a few years now, and I thought he knew better than to start out a conversation like that. So, like a mean old nag, I started freaking about money instead of being excited for his new role. I think I've mentioned it before, but John's the spender and I'm the saver in this relationship. And I am one cheap, tight, money-hungry freak. So the immediate thought of car shopping with no budget, endless discussion, or plan made me crazy.
But I'm better now...turns out John has known about the possibility of this new position for a month now, and he's got everything worked out. That's why he is in charge of the bills and I'm not!
Anyway--John got a new job!!!!!!! He starts February 1st. Still with Farmer's (they've been very good to him and opened so many doors). But he won't be working out of the house anymore and won't have a company car. And I think deep down he's pretty happy about the change on both of those fronts. He's been so stressed with his current position, so I'll be glad to see him in a place where he can thrive. He got tired of people yelling at him all day long about bumpers and paint jobs.
He wants to take advantage of the plethora of year-end car sales. So, I guess we're car shopping between now and January 1st. YIKES....we don't have any idea what we want (foreign and low miles are the only things we're sure of). But, we'll see.
I am also now in the market for a new digital camera, since John has to give his back when he switches positions. Any suggestions on an affordable, great quality digital camera? Something easy to use. This time, I will actually take suggestions since my dad won't be in town to take me shopping like he did with the TV! I have until February 1st to find a great new camera.
Ok, I know I said I'd post about selling the house. And I will...let's just say we're pretty unhappy with some of the choices we made when we decided to sell so I kind of have a sour taste in my mouth right now. We've shown it several times and keep getting calls....but it may be a long process. After the holidays are over, hopefully it will pick up. I'll blog about it when I feel a little less frustrated and a little more excited...
In the meantime: John got a new job, we're getting another car, and he's going to make more money! See....the money-hungry side of me is coming out...

Happy New Year to you both! 2007 looks to be quite exciting. It is good that you all balance each other out with the saving/spending roles. Brian & I are both spenders and it freaks my mother out, who is a huge saver;) I LOVE car shopping, let me know if you need a partner!
Dooney for Christmas? ...I'm so jealous! Congrats to John on the Job but I won't tell Colin you're wanting a foreign car...we're Ford all the way baby!
