Get out of my dreams and get into my car...our car, the new Honda

Well....we got a car. I know--it was fast. You don't have to tell me that. I was not a happy camper last night. Yes, of course I'm excited about a new car--who wouldn't be? It's the investment and the gigantic check you have to write that made me pretty unhappy. I'm better today....I just don't like for things to happen so fast.

It's a 2007 Honda Accord. It's almost the same color as my trusty Altima (which now seems like an old clunker, it being a 2006 and all). But it's a little more blue than the Nissan. It has a 6-disc CD player in it, so that's pretty much all I cared about.

Wow...a new TV, a new car, looking for a new house. Plus, our other car is not even a year old. It would seem we are made of money, which I can assure you we are not. Our blessings are because of some very generous clients at the holidays and some very hard work at our jobs to make it all possible. I told John just the other day--I can't believe how much has changed in just the past year. Not to mention since our first year of marriage. We're in such a different place, the most noticeable being financially. I know it's not guaranteed and the hard work and prayer must continue. But I guess now it's ok to enjoy it...at least that's what I hear.

I tend to want to save everything for "just in case". Just in case our car breaks down or just in case one of us gets very sick or just in case we want to retire one day. But in trying to prepare for all the "just in cases" I don't often just enjoy what I have. As my friend Melissa said "this is what you work for. Why else do you work so hard?".

So, I will enjoy the new car because John said I could enjoy it and not worry. He takes very good care of us, and wouldn't let us get something we couldn't afford. Anyway...since we bought it at night, I don't have a picture yet but I will post soon.

Oh yeah! I promised John I would let you guys know how awesome he was at negotiating. I told him he was a real hard @at sign-$dollar sign-$dollar sign. He brought them down on the price (used the old standby "I want to walk off the lot with that car for this much"). Then when they tried to charge us for a paperwork filing fee, he said thanks but no thanks and magically they were able to waive it. THEN we spent one hour in the finance office with John saying "no" about 100 times to everything they offered. We'd already been to our bank, got our loan, got the papers....all we wanted was to sign the check and walk out. After an hour, we finally did.

So, I was proud of him for being so tough...no messing around with John!

2007 Looking Good...

I was greeted with a phone call from my loving husband today that went a little something like this:

"Hey! Well, I got the promotion so I guess we'll need to go car shopping tonight."

WHOA. John's known me for a few years now, and I thought he knew better than to start out a conversation like that. So, like a mean old nag, I started freaking about money instead of being excited for his new role. I think I've mentioned it before, but John's the spender and I'm the saver in this relationship. And I am one cheap, tight, money-hungry freak. So the immediate thought of car shopping with no budget, endless discussion, or plan made me crazy.

But I'm better now...turns out John has known about the possibility of this new position for a month now, and he's got everything worked out. That's why he is in charge of the bills and I'm not!

Anyway--John got a new job!!!!!!! He starts February 1st. Still with Farmer's (they've been very good to him and opened so many doors). But he won't be working out of the house anymore and won't have a company car. And I think deep down he's pretty happy about the change on both of those fronts. He's been so stressed with his current position, so I'll be glad to see him in a place where he can thrive. He got tired of people yelling at him all day long about bumpers and paint jobs.

He wants to take advantage of the plethora of year-end car sales. So, I guess we're car shopping between now and January 1st. YIKES....we don't have any idea what we want (foreign and low miles are the only things we're sure of). But, we'll see.

I am also now in the market for a new digital camera, since John has to give his back when he switches positions. Any suggestions on an affordable, great quality digital camera? Something easy to use. This time, I will actually take suggestions since my dad won't be in town to take me shopping like he did with the TV! I have until February 1st to find a great new camera.

Ok, I know I said I'd post about selling the house. And I will...let's just say we're pretty unhappy with some of the choices we made when we decided to sell so I kind of have a sour taste in my mouth right now. We've shown it several times and keep getting calls....but it may be a long process. After the holidays are over, hopefully it will pick up. I'll blog about it when I feel a little less frustrated and a little more excited...

In the meantime: John got a new job, we're getting another car, and he's going to make more money! See....the money-hungry side of me is coming out...

Blogger won't let me post all the pictures in one blog...

So here are a few more pics of "the loot" and Christmas day.

Also--no one got me a set of gold Grillz. I was a little disappointed...

It's truly the gift that keeps on giving the whole year...

The Dooney and Bourke bag...told you it was gorgeous!

The Loot

I can't believe Christmas is over. Even more depressing...I can't believe my vacation is 15 hours from being over. Sigh...I'm ready to get back, but it's always nice having the day to get stuff done and bum around. I'm looking for a career change...I think I'm going to look into Professional Shopper and TV Watcher. I would excel...although, I'm pretty sure I would be bored after a while. Good thing I have a great job to go back to!

Christmas has been wonderful this year. I am so thankful my grandparents and my aunt were able to come. They come down every year for Christmas, but this year we were afraid they might have to stay home. Lots of surgeries and illnesses have made for a difficult for them to get around, but they came and made Christmas perfect once again.

And once again, we were well taken care of as far as "the goods" go. All I really wanted was a set of iPod speakers and a Coach purse--I've attached pictures below of the perfect gifts!

We spent the morning at my mom's, then headed over to John's parents for the afternoon. We ate a lot, and got lots of good presents...we're so lucky to be able to spend the day with both families. Plus, it was the year of the handbags for me, as Nina gave me a beautiful Dooney and Bourke bag. I usually don't carry purses that cost more than $15 so these bags will prove to be a major step up!

Anyway--it was a great year. Hit some good sales on the 26th and got some really cute brown boots. Then, today with the family headed home and most friends back at work I went it alone. I went to the mall to do a deep dive into shopping, and decided I really wanted to see a movie. So, I went by myself to see "The Holiday". I've never been to a movie by myself before, and I was very nervous about how it would go. But it was great! I liked having the time to myself, and I didn't have to feel bad about the movie choice (too chick-flicky for John or too vulgar for friends or not artsy enough for my sister, etc.).

I enjoyed the whole experience so much that I decided to treat myself to even more...so I went and spent an incredible amount of money and gift cards on make-up at Dillard's. Now that I think about it, it's probably best I head back to work tomorrow. Any more treating myself and we'll be broke!

The Coach purse!!

My sister, Julia got a new camera for Christmas...

John helped play "Santa" at my mom's, handing out gifts.

The iPod speakers! Cleaning the house will never be the same.

Grillz

There is a kiosk inside Quail Springs Mall called Grillz. Do you know what they sell there? GOLD TEETH. They sell supplies to pimp out your mouth. Inside Quail Springs Mall...this is Edmond, not Brooklyn!

Good thing it's still 2 days before Christmas....I know what I want for Christmas!

A few pictures...

Here's the new TV AND the new haircut...plus the added bonus of Stephen Colbert. Can't beat that!

Look at all those presents! It's been a lot of fun shopping this year...we've done so well saving for Christmas. It makes giving a lot more fun when you don't worry about the financial stuff!

John and I made our first Gingerbread house today....it was just a store-bought kit, but it looks great and was a lot of fun...

Faith spends her days watching for Santa!

More on the house...

Coming soon as requested....

North High School

All right, I know these surveys are so cheesy…but I saw this on a friend’s MySpace and I couldn’t resist. Most all of my good friends and fellow readers now didn’t know me back in High School…indulge me for a little bit!

Better late than never...

Where was blogger when I was in high school? It's amazing how popular you can become with a blog! I could have been Homecoming Queen instead of show choir and newspaper nerd. Oh how times have changed.

I know, I know! I have been a horrible blogger since my fantastic run in November. I don't know why. I'd like to say because I've been so busy. Which is 100% true. But truth be told, I haven't had much inspiration or motivation. I think I was kind of boring to start the month. But then there was so much....so much I could have written about. It got to be more than I could handle then I just stopped thinking about writing. I'll try to be better, and I really do appreciate everyone who reads and stops by. Just know that I'm reading YOUR blog every day and every day I, too, am wondering what's taking you so long to update!

Like I said....this month has been so full. I'm lost in a blur of wrapping paper and Christmas lights and parties and steak and gift baskets and receipts and TVs and realtors. All I really want to do at this point is lay in my cute Christmas PJ's on the couch watching "Friends" reruns on our new TV. Yes, we got a new TV....and thus begins the recap...
---------------------------------------------

I had 7 Christmas parties I attended this season (5 of which were work-related)...

Last Monday through Thursday, I had a total of 31 meetings with TV and radio station sales reps...

We just got a plate of Ingrid's cookies from a sales rep at our office, and I've already eaten two Thumbprints....

We got a new TV. 37-inch HD LCD. Of course we wanted to go bigger, but we had to find something that would fit in our current entertainment center. Otherwise, Cary, I would have totally bought the 42-inch!

I'm not done with my Christmas shopping...

We put our house up for sale....

I start a week's vacation in 91 minutes...

I got my hair cut and I love it this time. Sally rocks (Stevie still rocks, but Sally just happened to rock more this time)...

We went to a Catfish eating contest with some friends. We didn't compete, but we saw some people eat more than 20 catfish in one sitting. My stomach is churning just thinking about it...

I feel like maybe the TV is more of a priority in my life than it should be. Purchasing the TV caused us to miss, for the third year in a row, our church Christmas party. And I was really looking forward to it and told everyone we would be there. But you should really see McDreamy in HD...

Mason made $30 Saturday because he scored 6 goals in basketball. Arni is paying him $5 per goal. I told Arni I play basketball sometimes, too, but apparently it only applies to 5th graders and kindergartners....

The $30 brings him to almost $50 that he has saved now. I'll have to check my balance, but I'm pretty sure that might be more money than I have. And he's only 5...

My grandparents are coming on Saturday!! I can't wait to see them and my aunt. NOW it seems like Christmas...

I got the coolest calendar in the mail this week. It's from the Oklahoma Beef Council, and each month is a recipe and a picture of red meat. I can't wait until September because it's country fried steak month...

I've already decided on my New Year's Resolutions. I won't talk about them just yet, but my Monday and Tuesday nights are already booked because of them...

There are many other thoughts and updates running through my head, but I'll give you a break. It's been so long since I posted I'm sure you aren't used to hearing me talk! I'll try to be a better blogger on my vacation (now 61 minutes away). Wish me luck in the crowds tomorrow, as I brave THE MALL!

TV Advice

We're in the market for a new TV. What are our "must-haves" in a new TV?

Well, for starters it has to have a full screen. Currently when we watch ESPN, the TV cuts off the scores at the bottom. I'm not kidding.

It also has to maintain the same volume on every channel. Meaning I don't want to turn it up to level 20 on HGTV, then have to switch it to level 4 on Food Network.

Not looking for anything CRAZY expensive...you get what you pay for, obviously. We paid $125 for our current TV. So, we're willing to spend a little bit for quality. Do any of you tech-savvy bloggers out there have words of wisdom for TV purchases? Brand, HD, plasma, flat-panel, screen size....let me have it! I'm totally stupid when it comes to all the possibilities for such an important purchase. E-mail me or leave a comment...

Let's Get the Parties Started

All right, all right....I know I'm long overdue for an update. But things have been so crazy I honestly haven't had time. Why? Because it's December and in my world that means 100 different Christmas parties. Ok....more like 8 Christmas parties. But if you think about it, in less than 25 days that's a lot. For my work alone I have 5 parties to attend. What can I say--public relations is all about partying. Tomorrow night we have the pleasure of dining at Mickey Mantle's. At least we'll get a good steak!

I had the best weekend I've had in a long time. Friday night we had a little party at my boss' house with our team at the office. Luckily, everyone I work with is totally awesome and have really fun husbands, so when we get together everyone has fun. The girls totally schooled the guys in Scene It....beyond schooled them. We beat them and made them like it. We practically beat them in Cranium, and since it was so close I like to count it as a win for the girls anyway.

Yes, people, that's right...we played board games at the work Christmas party. And did I mention this was the SECOND office party I've had this year? The first one was last Wednesday with the entire office and we played board games at that one, too. We are wild and crazy, partying fools. Which brings me to the other best part of the parties--we beat Jenga. We played Jenga until we couldn't play anymore--I think it was 39 or 40 rows to be exact, then we had to knock it down.

Saturday I had a wonderful afternoon in the Norman/Purcell area. I met Laura and baby Riley for lunch (haven't seen her since she was born....she's perfect!). Then Mom, Julia, and I headed to Purcell to do a little antiquing. They have fabulous antique shops there--if you're ever in the mood to take a little trip make sure and visit Butler's Antiques. That day ended with watching Easton's basketball team KILL the other team (they had to turn the scoreboard off because they were losing so bad), and then we hung out with the boys for a while...they are so cool lately. Lots of fun.

Sunday I attended the 8th birthday party of my friend Cameron. His mom is my very best friend in the world, and I've known Cameron since before he was born. I cannot believe he's 8 years old, and I'm so proud of him and his mom. For 8 years old, he's one of the funniest, sweetest, smartest people I know.

Well, that's about it for now. I'll try and do more updating...after a month of everyday blogging I felt like something was missing all last week!

Greetings from Richmond!

I'm in Richmond, VA for a few days. Beautiful country here....it's cold like Oklahoma but they still have green grass...

I am staying in a Fairfield Inn and it is the nicest hotel. It's a suite, and I'm pretty sure it has two TV's. I say pretty sure because I've been up since 3:30 this morning and I may be suffering from double vision. In any case, the room is great.

Couple of thoughts from my airport adventures today...

There is nothing more annoying than the people that turn their cell phones on as soon as the plane lands and proceed to have loud, private conversations while waiting to get off the plane. Can you not wait 5 minutes to call your office? Do they really need to know you just landed? Do you really need to CALL someone to tell them you just landed and you've got to pee? Can't you just get off the plane, pee, then call someone? I don't understand....so annoying.

I am a total Starbucks addict, I'll admit. But I never realized how obnoxious the ordering process is. And I know I fall right into the trap...."venti vanilla triple espresso no foam soy milk latte, and don't fill it all the way up, and make sure the cup has a sleeve". I think it's really only obnoxious when it's businessmen in the airport. Because apparently wearing a suit and a bluetooth earpiece attached to your blackberry make you cooler than the rest of us.

I love the headrests on American Airlines....they fold on the sides to form to your head, so there's no bobbing head syndrome while you sleep on your 6:30 a.m. flight!

I should have worn my crocs around the airport. No one cares what you wear on a plane, but I wore my dress shoes and now I have blisters on every one of my toes. The heels are going to kill me tomorrow.

Make sure to smile and call the Hertz lady "ma'am" and you, too, could be upgraded to a Ford Taurus for free.

Good Night!

This is after 3 days of melting!!

That's right, folks...8 inches! This is after it stopped snowing 3 days ago...we still have lots of snow at our house.

Hope everyone enjoyed a couple days off school and work, and have enjoyed the winter weather. I know we have!

All I want for Christmas is a Big 12 Championship...there must be a Santa Claus!

What a year...what a game...what a quarterback. It is SO great to be a Sooner, and I'm so excited for this guy, Paul Thompson. If anyone deserves to be at this point, it's him. The whole team--a great example of perseverance. Big 12 Champions, baby!

I have to throw out props to John for his clairvoyance tonight. As we were watching the game, he kept saying "I feel an interception"....and then it happened. Not once, but twice. TWO times John called it as the ball was in the air. Reggie Smith and Lyndie Holmes came thru. And to top it off, he felt a major touchdown as we watched Malcolm Kelly run it in 66 yards. We have witnesses...and they are all amazed at John's ability to forsee major plays. It was amazing.

30 days until the Fiesta Bowl. Sooner Magic is buzzing in the air. It feels like our 2000 National Championship year, when there were no expectations, and success came out of nowhere. We always believe in our team, but this is really icing on the cake.

Boomer Sooner!!!!
